About Us

Tim is currently a partner and co-manager for Magis Capital Management LLC, a firm specializing in Equity Collar Strategies for sophisticated investors. His experience with finance and love of technology is a perfect match for this job. In addition, Tim is working with Kids First at Sunset View, a local foundation supporting elementary education in Point Loma, CA. Tim has been a on and off full-time parent and home automation guru since completing the house construction project in 2003. Prior to becoming a dad, Tim spent 6 months working with Kathy on the reconstruction of their San Diego house in the Point Loma area. His special area of focus was home automation, security and gadgetry. Prior to that, Tim spent about a year off of work traveling around the world with Kathy. It was also during that period of time that Tim and Kathy moved to San Diego. Prior to being in San Diego, Tim and Kathy lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, where Tim was CFO and VP of Operations for Immersion Corporation (NASDAQ: IMMR). Tim was part of the founding team for Immersion while a Mechanical Engineering graduate student at Stanford University. Tim was in South Dakota through his high school years, after which he moved to California to attend Stanford as an undergraduate.
Kathy is also a full-time parent (but her gender compels society to label her as a homemaker), and is the fun-loving mother of Rio and Roark. Kathy has had chances recently to pursue her interests in art by painting murals for both kids' bedrooms. Unfortunately for the art, Rio has already grown old enough to see her mural painted over with a few coats of dusty rose (pink) paint. Prior to becoming a mom, Kathy earned her Ph.D. in Cell Biology in Tim Stearns' lab at Stanford, where she met Tim while living in the Stanford graduate housing trailer park. Kathy is originally from New York State, and did her undergraduate studies at Princeton prior to coming west to sunny California.
Rio was born in September, 2003.
Roark was born in September, 2005

Rio and Roark Chatter

Rio and Roark have finally been split up and they each have their own bedroom. This new independence has been fun for them, but there is something that hasn't changed. Since they could walk, we've had a motion sensor in the hall to let us know that they're up and about during the night. Well, now they've decided that they can play a new game - sneak out without waking up the "big bellies." Well, I think it's fun that they're trying to outsmart the house, but really - "big bellies"? Apparently that is what we are!
